PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY

Prevention is the foundation of good oral health. Regular visits allow us to identify problems early, before they become complex and costly. Our preventive services are designed to maintain your oral health at every stage of life, from children to adults.

Exam and Clean

Also known as Active Maintenance, a regular exam and clean is the cornerstone of preventive dentistry. We remove plaque and tartar build-up (scaling and polishing), check for early signs of decay, gum disease, and oral cancer, and provide personalised advice for your home routine. Regular visits — typically every 6 months — are essential for long-term oral health.

Bad Breath

Bad breath (halitosis) can result from poor oral hygiene, gum disease, tooth decay, or systemic conditions. We identify the underlying cause and provide targeted treatment, which may include a professional clean, treatment of gum disease, or referral where necessary. A proper oral hygiene routine including tongue cleaning and interdental cleaning is also key.

Sport Mouthguards

Custom-fitted mouthguards provide far superior protection compared to over-the-counter options. Made from strong, precisely moulded rubber, they protect teeth, lips, cheeks, and tongue during contact sports. We recommend professionally fitted guards for all patients who participate in sport, especially contact sports such as rugby, AFL, and martial arts.

Oral Hygiene

Good oral hygiene is the daily foundation of dental health. We provide instruction on correct brushing and flossing technique, interdental cleaning, and the appropriate use of mouthwashes and fluoride products. Our team also offers professional scaling, polishing, and the application of remineralising agents to protect against decay and erosion.

Children & Adolescents

Children's dental health sets the foundation for a lifetime of good oral health. We provide gentle, child-friendly care from an early age, including fissure sealants to protect vulnerable tooth surfaces from decay.

Fissure Sealants

Pit and fissure sealants are resins applied to the grooves, pits and fissures of teeth — surfaces most susceptible to decay. Fissure sealants are effective at preventing dental decay for both children and adults.

Early Intervention

Genetic and environmental factors both influence the development of teeth and facial features. In some cases, the use of appliances (such as splints or expansion devices) can help correct, guide, and reposition teeth and jaws into more favourable alignment, particularly when treatment occurs before the late teenage years.

Posture, mouth breathing, and oral habits (such as finger, thumb, or lip sucking, as well as tongue position) can affect how the facial muscles function. These factors may disrupt the natural balance between bone and muscle, leading to changes in facial development.

TMJ & Occlusal Splints

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders can cause pain in the jaw muscles, face, neck, and difficulty opening the mouth. Teeth grinding (bruxism) is a common cause, often occurring at night without the patient being aware. An occlusal splint (night guard) is a custom-made appliance worn over the teeth to reduce grinding forces, protect the teeth, and relieve TMJ strain. We assess your bite and symptoms to determine the most appropriate appliance and management approach.

Appliances for Sleep Apnoea

Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a condition in which the upper airway repeatedly collapses during sleep, reducing blood oxygen levels. Snoring is a common symptom, but OSA is often undiagnosed for years. Once your GP or respiratory physician has confirmed a diagnosis, we can provide a Mandibular Advancement Splint (MAS) — a custom appliance that repositions the jaw to keep the airway open, reducing snoring and breathing pauses during the night.
